BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Devonnte Holland scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Radford to a 73-60 win over Campbell Saturday at Gore Arena.
Carlik Jones added 18 points, three assists and three steals for the Highlanders (17-9, 12-2), who won their seventh-straight outing.
Cedric Henderson, Jr., led Campbell (13-14, 4-11) with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, while
Messiah Thompson added 11 off the bench and
Cory Gensler chipped in 10 points and for rebounds.
On a day when Campbell retired the jersey of all-time leading scorer
Chris Clemons, the Camels jumped to a 24-14 lead when Jesús Carralero scored on a spin move with 8:28 left the opening half. However, Radford responded with a 16-5 burst to grab the lead before Gensler's three gave the Camels a 32-30 edge at the break.
Holland scored on four of Radford's first five second-half possessions and the Highlanders used a 13-4 burst midway through the period to take a double-digit lead. Henderson's three cut the margin to 58-50 with 7:32 left, but the Camels were unable to draw closer.
A 6-foot-7 senior, Holland grabbed five offensive boards and made 9-of-12 shots in 21 minutes.
Radford shot 59 percent in the second half, 48 percent on the night, and had 21 second-chance points off 14 offensive rebounds. Campbell shot 44 percent overall and made 11-of-30 threes.
Joshua Lusane grabbed seven rebounds, dealt five assists and blocked three shots for CU.
Gensler (1,058) moved by Lorne Merthie (1,051 from 2008-12) into 26th place on Campbell's all-time scoring list, 14th in the program's Division I era (since 1977-78).
Campbell begins a two-game road stretch Thursday at Charleston Southern (7:30 p.m.).
