BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University President Dr. Brad Creed and Director of Athletics
Omar Banks have announced a contract extension for head men's soccer coach
Dustin Fonder through the 2024 season.
The 2019 Big South Coach of the Year, Fonder has guided the Camels to back-to-back league titles and NCAA tournament appearances, in addition to the program's highest-ever year-ending national rankings as a Division I member.
"I want to thank Dr. Creed and
Omar Banks for their tremendous support of the men's soccer program," said Fonder, who has guided Campbell to a 50-39-8 mark, including a 24-15-2 record in Big South play over five seasons. "My family and I are grateful to receive this generous contract extension. Our staff and players will continue to strive for daily excellence in all we do on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Collectively, we have established a nationally-recognized program, and we look to push to new heights moving forward."
Fonder and assistants coaches were also recognized as the 2019 South Region staff of the year by the United Soccer Coaches after guiding the Camels into the second round of the NCAA College Cup.
"We are very excited to announce this extension for Coach Fonder, as he has done an exceptional job of building our men's soccer program and bringing it to national prominence," said Banks. "Dr. Creed and I are very confident that he will continue to excel competitively while developing and graduating our student-athletes. He has done everything we've asked him to do and this extension is well deserved."
Campbell posted a 17-3-2 overall record and a perfect 8-0 slate in Big South last fall play while capturing the league regular season and tournament titles. Campbell won its two Big South tournament matches by a combined 7-1 score, including a 4-1 victory over second-seeded High Point in the final.
The 24th-ranked Camels earned the program's first NCAA postseason victory on Nov. 21 in a 3-1 triumph at No.-15 James Madison before falling 2-0 three days later at top-ranked and eventual national finalist Virginia in the second round.
Campbell ranked eighth nationally in won-lost-tied percentage (.818), third in scoring offense (2.68 goals per game) and 13th in team goals-against average (0.752).
