BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Following a 2-0 week that included yet another win over a ranked opponent and his fastest pin of the season, Campbell's
Jere Heino has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Heino, the nation's 14
th-ranked heavyweight (FloWrestling), defeated Appalachian State's Cary Miller, ranked No. 24 by FloWrestling, with a 3-2 decision on Thursday, helping CU top the Mountaineers 20-13. The Helsinki, Finland native then ended Saturday's 38-6 win over VMI with his quickest pin of the season, just one second short of his career-best, pinning Robbie Adelstein in just 45 seconds.
A redshirt senior, Heino also helped No. 20 Campbell clinch at least a share of its second straight SoCon dual championship. Heino is now 21-4 overall and 10-2 in dual matchups on the season, including a perfect 6-0 in SoCon bouts.
This is the eighth time a Camel has been named SoCon Wrestler of the Week this season, with Heino becoming the sixth different Campbell product to earn the league's weekly honors.
Campbell will wrap up the regular season on the road at Davidson on Sunday, February 23. The
2020 SoCon Championships are set for March 8 in Boone, N.C.
