Speight, Bolden lift Camels past Longwood

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Taya Bolden recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Kianna Speight added 17 to lift Campbell past Longwood 81-76 Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.

The win for the Camels (19-6, 14-2) gave the Camels their 14th league win of the season to mark the most Big South wins in a season in program history. The mark sits two wins shy of the overall league win record which was set in 2001 when the Camels went 16-2 as a member of the Trans America Athletic Conference.

Bolden scored eight of her 16 points from the free throw and hauled in eight of her rebounds on the offensive end for the Camels who only stretched its lead to as many as eight in the second period.

Speight finished with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting including a 3-for-7 effort from downtown.

Kyla McMakin, the Big South's leading scorer, led all scorers with 20 points followed by Anne-Hamilton Leroy who scored 19 and Tra'Dayja Smith with 17.

Shy Tuelle rounded out the board of double-digit scorers on the afternoon with 13 points.

Leroy cut the Campbell lead to one point, 74-73, with 1:36 to play on a jumper but Campbell closed on a 7-3 spurt to close the game.

On the ensuing possession, Bolden pulled down two offensive boards before getting a layup to go. Campbell then forced a stop capped off by a Bolden rebound which led to Serranho being fouled where she made a pair.

Despite giving up a season-high 76 points, Campbell's 81 point outing marks the highest point total scored this season against a division-1 opponent and the most since the season opener when Campbell scored a program record 122 points.

Campbell returns to action on Tuesday with a trip to Charleston looking to reach 20 wins for the third time in four seasons under Ronny Fisher.
