Gonser named SoCon Wrestler of the Month

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After finishing off a perfect January, Campbell's Noah Gonser has been named the Southern Conference's Wrestler of the Month.

Gonser went unblemished at 7-0 in the first month of 2020, all in dual action, with four pins, a tech fall, and wins over three ranked opponents. The winner of eight straight matches overall, Gonser was named SoCon Wrestler of the Week following a 3-0 showing at the Duals on the Diamond that included victories over No. 21 Todd Small of Iowa State and No. 14 Joshua Krammer of Arizona State, helping Campbell take down the No. 11 Cyclones.

Gonser claimed a third ranked win on January 25, defeating Oregon State's Devan Turner, 4-2. He is also one of a pair of Camels to not only start his SoCon schedule 3-0, but log three pins, all coming in the first period.

Through January, Gonser currently ranks as high as No. 9 nationally (FloWrestling, WIN) at 133, and was tabbed No. 10 in the initial NCAA Coaches' Panel. The redshirt senior is now 24-5 overall on the season.

So far this season, Camels have earned all three of the SoCon's monthly honors, with 141 pounder Josh Heil taking November and December accolades.

Next up, the Camels return to Buies Creek for their final two home dates of the 2019-20 season, taking on Chattanooga on February 8, followed by Appalachian State on February 13.
