Day, Placek named Big South All-Decade

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's top two all-time goal scorers, Loren Day and Melissa Placek, have both been named to the Big South's inaugural Women's Lacrosse All-Decade Team.

The league's All-Decade Teams were first unveiled as part of the Big South's 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14 to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport in each decade since the Conference's founding in 1983.

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total. Women's Lacrosse became a Conference sport in 2013, and the All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order by position and features four attackers, four midfielders, four defenders, one goalkeeper and one head coach.  In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.

Playing for Campbell's first four lacrosse teams from 2013-16, Day remains one of the most decorated Camels in the program's history, earning Mid-Major All-American status, as well as 2016 Big South Offensive Player of the Year. Day was a three-time All-Big South performer, taking first team honors in 2015 and 2016, in addition to second team all-conference and all-freshman team accolades in 2013.

Day ranked fourth nationally in scoring at 3.53 goals per game as a senior in 2016, totaling 67 goals, which still stands as the CU single season record. Day also remains Campbell's career record holder in several other categories, including points (255), goals (191) and free position goals (30), among others.

Campbell's second all-time leading scorer with 159 goals, Placek became the first Camel to be named First Team All-Big South three times from 2017-19, also earning second team honors as a freshman in 2016. The Baltimore, Md. native was also named to the Big South's All-Academic team in 2019 as a senior.

Placek finished her career as Campbell's all-time leader in draw controls with 385, while ranking second in overall and free position goals (21), top-five points (193), games played (73) and started (69), as well as top-10 in assists (34), ground balls (89) and caused turnovers (43). Her 65 goals in 2018 stands just two shy of Day's program single season record.

Women's Lacrosse All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following: 1) Was a multiple All-Conference honoree; 2) Was named an All-American; 3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; 4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; 5) Won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year.  Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions, and were listed under their primary position during their careers.  Member institutions also had final determination in regards to inclusion of student-athletes and coaches.
