FARMVILLE, VA. - DeShaun Wade scored 22 points and Longwood rallied to defeat Campbell 78-69 Sunday night at Willett Hall.
The Lancers (3-11, 2-6) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit by shooting 68 percent from the floor (including 6-of-9 from 3-point range) after intermission. Wade finished 8-of-10 overall, including 5-of-7 from 3-point distance. Juan Munoz added 16 points and 6 assists, Justin Hill had 14 points and Leslie Nkereuwem 11 for Longwood, which shot 53 percent (27-51) overall and made 9-of-22 (.409) triples.
Jordan Whitfield led Campbell (6-7, 2-4) with 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting plus three assists.
Cedric Henderson, Jr. had 17 points, while
Milos Stajcic came off the bench to post season highs of 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Playing without its third- (Jesús Jesus Carralero) and fourth- (
Austin McCullough) leading scorers, Campbell shot 65 percent before the break, but just 40 percent (10-25) over the final 20 minutes. CU also finished 27-51 from the field, but Longwood (15-20) made four more free throws than Campbell attempted (9-11).
Whitfield, who scored 20 points in Saturday's 64-58 win at Longwood, finished the two-game trip to Farmville 16-of-23 from the field.
After trailing by eight at the break, Longwood hit its first seven shots of the second half and took a 48-40 lead on Hill's triple with 14:50 remaining. CU responded with a 9-2 run and trimmed the gap to 50-49 on Stajcic's hook shot with 12:13 left.
Joshua Lusane's lay in trimmed the margin to 58-56 with 7:14 to play, but Wade hit back-to-back triples to cap a 14-4 run and put the Lancers ahead 72-60 with 1:27 remaining.
Campbell made 12 of its first 15 shots and led 26-16 after Gediminas Mokšeckas' steal and layup with 9:14 to play in the opening half.
The Camels led 36-28 at the break after shooting 65 percent (17-26) from the floor, including 15 of 18 (.833) inside the arc. Henderson scored eight first-half points, while Whitfield added seven on 3-of-3 shooting.
CU held a 10-2 edge in points off turnovers and outscored the Lancers in the paint 24-14 before the break. Longwood made just 38.5 percent (10-26) of its first-half shots.
After playing its first six league games on the road, Campbell returns to Gore Arena Thursday and Friday to host Presbyterian in a pair of 7 p.m. starts that will air on ESPN+.
