BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Kyla McMakin nailed a three as the buzzer went off to give Longwood a 54-52 win over Campbell, Sunday afternoon in Gore Arena.
Campbell moves to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big South following the loss while the Lancers advance to 6-7 and 5-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Micaila Coleman picked up where she left off, exploiting the Longwood defense to score the first six points of the game for Campbell
- Both teams battled as Campbell seemingly started to pull away following a three from Luana Serranho put the Camels up by eight over halfway through the third quarter, but an 11-4 run by Longwood made it 40-39 heading into the fourth
- The Lancers hit back-to-back threes at the start of the fourth as the Camels retaliated with a 10-0 run to retake the lead up 50-45 with 3:27 remaining
- Kyla McMakin scored the final nine points for Longwood, hitting three shots from behind the arc including the game-winner at the buzzer to put the Lancers on top, 54-52
NOTABLES
- McMakin, who leads the nation in field goal attempts, finished with 17 points while Akila Smith (13 points) and Tra'Dayja Smith (12 points) also reached double-figures for Longwood
- Serranho led the Camels with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from deep
- Coleman finished with a career-high 10 points and added six boards, five of which came on the offensive glass
- Taya Bolden finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds marking her second-straight double-double and her fourth of the season
- Both benches struggled to score as the CU bench went scoreless for the first time all season and the Longwood bench was held to just three points
- Campbell dropped its first-ever home game against the Lancers (13-1 all-time)
