BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Dravon Mangum led six Radford players in double figures with 16 points and Radford outlasted Campbell 97-91 in three overtimes Tuesday night at Gore Arena.
Lewis Djonkam and Josiah Jeffers added 15 each, Shaquan Jules had 14, Fah'Mir Ali 12 (plus nine assists) and Chyree Walker 10, plus 13 rebounds for the Highlanders (9-6, 8-1 Big South), who won their fifth-straight game.
Jordan Whitfield led Campbell (8-8, 4-5) with a career-high 28 points, plus five assists,
Cedric Henderson, Jr., added 18 points,
Joshua Lusane contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds and
Milos Stajcic 10 points for the Camels, who made 14-of-31 (.452) threes.
In only the third three OT game in Campbell's Division I era (since 1977-78), Radford rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second half.
Radford closed the second half on a 10-2 run and tied the game at 66 on Ali's pullup three with 24 seconds remaining. The Camels held for a final shot, but Whitfield's pass intended for a cutting Lusane was deflected by Djonkam.
Both teams had a shot at winning in the final possession of the first OT, but Henderson's three missed with 20 seconds to play, and Jeffers' trey rimmed out at the buzzer.
Lusane put the Camels in front 83-80 with 1:06 remaining in the second extra period, but Ali tied the score on a wing three with 36.8 seconds to play. Whitfield's pull-up jumper missed in CU's final possession.
Xavier Lipscomb's corner three and 3-point play started a decisive 9-0 Radford burst in the third OT. Lusane and
Messiah Thompson hit triples to cut Radford's seven-point (92-85) lead to 94-91 with 21 seconds to play, but Radford made 3-of-4 from the line in the last 14.1 to seal the victory.
Radford finished the game shooting 53.6 percent (37-69) from the field, made 6-of-25 (.240) threes and 17-24 from the line (.708) while finishing with a 49-26 edge on the glass. Campbell shot 47 percent on the night (32-68), including 45 percent (14-31) beyond the arc and hit 13-of-20 from the line (.650).
Campbell made 8-of-13 threes in the opening half and led 36-20 at the break. Lusane's triple with 1:19 to play capped a 14-3 run and gave the Camels their largest lead (36-20).
The Camels and Highlanders will complete their two-game series Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
