Hot shooting leads Camels to 80-57 win over Gardner-Webb

Campbell earns fifth-straight victory with win over Gardner-Webb

BUIES CREEK - Five Camels reached double-figures as Campbell defeated Gardner-Webb, 80-57, Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena.

Campbell, on a five-game win streak, improves to 11-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play while Gardner-Webb drops to 5-11 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Fighting Camels made 7-of-12 shots from three in the first half, holding a 30-27 lead over the Runnin' Bulldogs at the break
  • Campbell came out of halftime on a 15-2 run and outscored Gardner-Webb 25-8 in the third quarter behind 10 points off the bench from Faith Price
  • CU continued its hot shooting into the fourth quarter, making 6-of-9 shots from the field and 12-of-12 shots from the charity stripe down the stretch for the win

NOTABLES

  • All nine players scored for Campbell including five reaching double-figures in the game, both season-highs for the Camels this season
  • Shy Tuelle led all scorers with 19 points, matching her season-high with five three-pointers in the game
  • Tuelle also finished with six assists and five steals, both career-highs for the junior, to go along with four rebounds
  • Taya Bolden extended her double-double streak to three games, recording 13 points and a season-best 18 boards. The redshirt-senior has finished with double-figures in 10 of her past 11 games, including seven-straight
  • Bolden passed Keira Gaines (880 rebounds, 2011-15) for sixth on the program's all-time rebounding list with 883
  • Bolden also matched her season-high with five assists, all coming in the first half of today's game
  • Brittany Staves made her first career start, providing a season-high 10 points for the Camels
  • Price recorded 10 of her 13 points in the third quarter, making 5-of-7 shots in the game
  • Luana Serranho made a career-best 8-of-8 shots from the free throw line, finishing with 11 points
  • Serranho has remained perfect from the free throw line in Big South play this season, making 18 straight shots
  • Campbell enjoyed one of its best shooting performances overall this afternoon, matching its season-high point total of 80, shooting 51.1% from the field. The Camels combined for 12 three-pointers, shooting a season-best 63.2% from deep, and made a season-high 20-of-22 free throws
  • Gardner-Webb shot 28.6% from the field and 16.0% from three in the game
  • Lauren Bevis came off the bench, scoring a team-high 13 points for the Runnin' Bulldogs while Alasia Smith added 12. Alexis Hueston also added seven points and nine boards.
