Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. - Campbell dropped its first Big South game of the season as High Point earned a 63-55 win, Monday evening at the Millis Center.
Campbell moves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big South following the loss while High Point improves to 6-4 and 4-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Campbell attacked the paint early, scoring 18 of its 19 points in the first quarter in the paint
- Lauren McNamara-Clement led the attack down low as the senior forward scored a career-high tying 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting in the first half
- High Point ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run as Campbell led 31-26 at halftime
- The Panthers continued its run after the break as Skyler Curran scored seven straight, giving High Point its first lead since early in the first half
- High Point led by as many as five in the third before a couple of made free throws by Taya Bolden and an inadvertent tip-in by High Point on its own basket made it a 44-43 Panther lead at the end of the period
- Campbell stayed within striking distance as McNamara-Clement made it a one-point game following a made shot at the charity stripe until Curran made two shots from the line after getting fouled on the next possession
- Cydney Johnson hit a jumper with 33 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach for Campbell as it fell, 63-55
- High Point was led by a trio of scorers as Curran (13), Johnson (12) and Jenson Edwards (10) each reached double-figures
- The Panthers held an edge from behind the arc, hitting nine 3-pointers to Campbell's two
- Lauren McNamara-Clement led all scorers with a career-high 18 points while Shy Tuelle added 11
- Taya Bolden ended with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds while also dishing out a career-high five assists
NOTABLES
- Taya Bolden grabbed her 800th career rebound in the third quarter making her the 11th player in program history to reach the mark
- Bolden now sits 10th all-time in program history and is tied for 24th in Big South history with 803 boards
- McNamara-Clement's previous career-high of 14 points was set her freshman season against William Peace (11/17/17)
- Campbell scored 38 points in the paint, the most in a game this season since the Fighting Camels had 30 against UNCW
