BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell (14-8, 9-1) made quick work of the Radford Highlanders in a straight set win Saturday afternoon (4-18, 2-7). The win gives the Camels their fifth in a row and 12 of the last 13.
Campbell jumped out to a quick and commanding lead with a pair of 25-14 wins across the first two sets. The Camels led just 13-12 in the first set but closed the set on a 12-2 run.
Chloe Cook tallied four kills in the opening set, while the Camels committed only three attack errors compared to Radford's 10.
The Highlanders were susceptible to Campbell runs all day and allowed a 7-1 run early in the second set to give Campbell a six point lead they would not relinquish. Cook had a huge second set, posting six kills on nine attacks without an error in the frame. Radford committed seven more errors in the second set to aid the Camel cause.
Radford cut down on errors in the third set to keep it close threatened forcing a fourth set. Leading just 22-21,
Melody Paige picked up kill and
Ananda Patterson picked up two kills to finish off the set at 25-22 and earn the match win.
Cook paced the Camels on the day with a match-high 12 kills on .357 hitting, the only player of the match with double-figure kills. The Camels hit .272 on the day, the second-highest mark of the season.
Madee Miner dished out 16 assists and added 11 digs for her 10
th double-double of the year.
Claranne Fechter led the defense with 12 digs.
Radford's Morgan Lawson led the Highlander attack with nine kills, and Shelby Hernandez posted a match-high 14 digs. Campbell held Radford to .056 hitting, the second-lowest of the year and 10
th time holding opponents to below .100.
Campbell is back home next weekend for a pair of big matches. The second-place Camels host third-place NC A&T on Friday night at 5 p.m. before hosting first-place High Point on Saturday. Campbell went to five sets with both teams during the last meetings.
