BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell picked up its first win of the season with a 119-86 victory over East Carolina on Friday night at the Johnson Aquatic Center. Camels finished first in seven of the 11 events on the evening.
Campbell got off to a strong start and grabbed the top spot in three of the first five events.
The A-Relay 200 medley team opened the day with a first-place finish, clocking in at 1:47.71. Camels then took first and third in the 200 free, led by
Annie Sanchez at 1:54.95.
Meredith Ashburn finished third at 1:57.57.
Campbell continued its freestyle success with a win in the 50 free as
Colleen Renshaw swam a 24.37.
The Camels held a small lead of 48-45 at the first of two breaks during the meet.
Campbell came back from the break with back-to-back 1-2 finishes in the 100 fly and 100 free.
In the 100 fly,
Piper Burton touched first at 58.64 followed by
Skyler DeWall at 59.11. In the 100 free, it was
Colleen Renshaw getting to the wall first at 52.57, just ahead of
Meredith Ashburn at 53.08 and
Caroline Lucas at 55.38 in third place.
Julia Sherlock made it three straight first-place finishes for the Camels with her win in the 100 back, posting a time of 57.52.
Campbell extended the lead between breaks and led 97-72 at the second intermission.
The 200 free relay A-team wrapped up the meet with another first place finish by swimming a 1:36.60.
The Fighting Camels are off next week before returning to the Johnson Aquatic Center on Oct. 23 for a tri-meet with UNC Asheville and Old Dominion. That meet will begin at 11 a.m.
