Camels top Blue Hose, clinch bye in Big South Tournament

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels clinched a top-two seed in next week's Big South tournament with a straight-sets win (25-16, 25-14, 25-10) over Presbyterian Friday at Gore Arena. The top two seeds each receive a first-round bye and will play in the Big South semifinals Saturday at Campbell.

The win moves Campbell to 18-9, 13-2 in Big South play while the Blue Hose fall to 11-14, 6-9.

Campbell benefited from 29 PC attack errors on the night. The Blue Hose hit -.095 for the match, the lowest of any Campbell opponent this season, and the first to hit below zero since Gardner-Webb during the 2020 season.

The Campbell middle blockers all had big nights, with the trio of Melody Paige, Ananda Patterson and Hailey Wilson combining for 21 kills on .462 hitting, each committing just one error each. The trio also totaled 13 total blocks.

Campbell built a sizeable first-set lead courtesy of an 11-1 run that took the team from down two to up eight at 14-6. From there the Camels cruised to a 25-16 win. Lailah Green tallied four kills in the opening frame and finished with a match-high nine on the evening.

The Camels put together the longest run of the season, rattling off 13 straight points to go up 16-1 in the second set. Campbell couldn't hold the Blue Hose to single digits in the set with PC going on an 8-0 run during the frame, but it was inconsequential as the Camels took the set 25-14.

Campbell found a way to be even more dominant in the third set, coasting to a 25-10 set win to finish the match. PC hit -.241 in the final frame with only four kills and 11 errors. The 15-point margin is the second-largest of the year for Campbell, trailing the 25-9 set win last weekend at UNC Asheville.

Elyse Gross led the Campbell defense with a season-best 13 digs. Madee Miner dished out 18 assists.

Presbyterian was led by Kasey Battle's six kills, Erin Cooke's 14 assists, and Anna Hewitt's match-high 17 digs.

The Camels are back in Gore Arena tomorrow for the regular season finale against Charleston Southern. Senior day ceremonies will take place at 4 p.m. with the match to follow.

Tickets are on sale now for the Big South tournament next weekend in Buies Creek. The first round begins on Friday, and Campbell will play Saturday at either 4:30 or 7 p.m. More tournament and ticket information can be found here.
