Campbell comeback falls short at ECU

Campbell makes 11 three-pointers in second-half comeback attempt

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Taniyah Thompson scored 19 points and East Carolina held off a furious Campbell comeback to win 76-66 over the Camels Sunday at Minges Coliseum.

The Pirates (4-3) led by as many as 22 with 7:03 left in the third quarter before Campbell (3-3) started to claw back by shooting 8-10 from behind the arc in the period.

Campbell cut the deficit to as few as four on a Faith Price three with 2:41 left to make it 70-66. The Camels were unable to make it any closer as ECU blocked two shots and forced Campbell without a basket to close out the game.

The Camels made 11 of 15 three-pointers in the second half as seven different players hit from deep. Campbell shot 41.5% from the field (22-53) to East Carolina's 54.5% (30-55).

Price led the way for the Camels with 17 points off the bench on 4-6 from three in the second half. Luana Serranho scored 11 of her 14 points in the second half and had six assists while Taya Bolden led all players with eight rebounds, including five off the offensive glass.

Da'Ja Green joined Thompson in double-figures for the Pirates with 13 points to go along with seven boards and four assists. Alexsia Rose came off the bench to dish out a game-high seven assists for ECU while Tiara Chambers had all five of her team's blocks.

ECU scored 26 points off 20 Campbell turnovers and outscored the Camels 34-14 in the paint. Campbell held a 14-4 edge in second chance points.
