ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Fighting Camels picked up their program-record 12
th conference win of the season with a straight-set victory at UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon. The Camels won each set by less than the previous, but it continued to be enough to seal the deal in three sets.
The win keeps Campbell (17-9, 12-2) in second place in the Big South. UNC Asheville falls to 6-17, 4-10 in the league.
Campbell came out red-hot and earned its largest set win of the season in the opening frame at 25-9. It was the first time Campbell has held its opponent single digits in a set since the 2020 season. The Camels jumped out to an early 14-4 lead and never looked back as the lead ballooned to the eventual 16-point margin.
The Bulldogs were able to hang closer in the second set, but Campbell still came away with a 25-21 set win. After such a lopsided first set, Campbell never led by more than five during he second. The Camels posted four blocks in the set and
Lailah Green led the offense with three kills in the frame.
Campbell had to fight for the third set, trailing for a large portion of the third. After committing only three attack errors across the first two sets, Campbell committed 12 in the third set along. Asheville took its first lead of the match at 3-2 and held on to that until Campbell regained the lead at 17-16, part of a 5-0 Campbell run that put the Camels ahead for good en route to a 25-23 win.
Green led the Camels with a match-high nine kills on the day.
Madee Miner led in both assists and digs with 18 and 11.
Camilly Cristiny led the Bulldog attack with nine kills while Brrandy Kishbaugh dished out a team-high 15 assists.
Campbell returns home for the final weekend of the regular season for a pair of matches against Presbyterian and Charleston Southern. Friday will begin at 6 p.m. and the regular season finale will get underway Saturday at 4 p.m., with senior day festivities happening pregame.
