NC State slips past Campbell 1-0

Camels outshoot Wolfpack; hold NC State without shot or corner kick in second half

RALEIGH, N.C. - Denae Antoine scored the lone goal of the match as NC State defeated Campbell 1-0, Tuesday evening at Dail Soccer Field.

Antoine received a pass from Toni Starova in the box, netting the deciding goal in the 19th minute.

"I am very happy with our first outing," head coach Samar Azem said. "We have not played in 466 days and it was evident that they've been putting in a lot of work since then.
Everything from our match fitness, to how we want to play was positive."

Campbell (0-1-0) held a six to two advantage on corner kicks and out-shot NC State (3-0-0) eight to five. The Campbell defense held the Wolfpack without a shot or corner kick throughout the entire second half.

"I was very proud of how we adjusted in the second half defensively to keep them off the shot board," Azem continued. "Of course it's disappointing not to get the win, not to score but I thought we did really well to create a lot of set pieces create a good attack now we need to start putting those opportunities away. I like the way this team plays and we are very, excited about continuing to build on this."

Emma Bushee nearly came away with the equalizer in the 39th minute, connecting on a header from a pass by Elyssa Nowowieski but keeper Maria Echezaretta managed to come up with the save for the Wolfpack.

Echezzaretta picked up the win in goal for NC State, posting three saves, while Reaghan Duval suffered her first loss of the season.

Campbell returns to the pitch Sunday at UNC Asheville in its Big South opener at 4:00 p.m. in Asheville, N.C.
