ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Cameron Turner netted the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Campbell past UNC Asheville 1-0, Sunday night at Greenwood Field.
Campbell, playing in its Big South opener, moves to 1-0 in conference play following the overtime win and 1-1 overall on the season while UNC Asheville fell to 0-1 overall.
Cazzi Norgren collected a Campbell corner kick and dished it to Hanna Maansson outside the box. Maansson volleyed it in to Turner where she finished with her left foot. The goal marked Turner's first of the season and her first since 2018, also at UNC Asheville.
"UNC Asheville is a very organized side so I was very proud of our team for the way we managed the game, the tempo we played with and the opportunities we created," head coach Samar Azem said following the thrilling win. "We left some goals out there however, but we can, and will, clean that up. I'm very proud of the team for getting three points on the road against a tough opponent."
The Camels out-shot Asheville 32-3 in the match and held a 14-1 edge in shots on target and 17-1 advantage on corners. Campbell's 32 shots marked the most in a match since last season's 3-2 double-overtime win over Presbyterian in the Big South quarterfinals.
The backline play of Campbell continued its stellar play, holding Asheville to one shot and one corner throughout the entire second half and overtime. Keeper Reaghan Duval moved to 1-1 on the season after posting her fifth career shutout between the posts.
"I like a lot of things this team does and I'm very excited to get them back out on the training pitch as we continue fine-tuning our game."
