Campbell holds off late Radford rally

CU improves to 12-6 overall, 9-4 in conference play following 53-50 win

RADFORD, VA. - Four finished with double-figures and Campbell held off a late Radford charge for a 53-50 inside the Dedmon Center on Friday evening.

Campbell improves to 12-6 and 9-4 in the Big South while Radford had its four-game win streak snapped and fell to 9-11 and 9-9 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Campbell jumped out to a 20-9 lead in the first quarter as six different players scored
  • Radford cut it to a four-point game at the half but the Highlanders were held to only seven points in the third quarter to push the Campbell lead back to double-digits
  • Shy Tuelle gave the Camels its largest lead of the game with her fourth three-pointer of the night in the fourth quarter making it 47-33
  • Radford proceeded to go on a 15-2 run over seven minutes, cutting the CU lead to 49-48 with less than 30 seconds
  • Tuelle made two free throws following a flagrant foul on the Highlanders while Luana Serranho and Taya Bolden each went 1-for-2 from the line to lead Campbell to a 53-50 victory

NOTABLES

  • Tuelle led all scorers for the second-straight evening, finishing with 16 points
  • The hot-shooting junior recorded her third straight game with four or more 3-pointers after going 4-9 from distance tonight
  • Brittany Staves earned her second career-start recording 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and one block
  • Staves has reached double-figures in three straight games for the Camels, averaging 34 minutes
  • Serranho and Bolden each finished with 10 points while Lauren McNamara-Clement had 12 rebounds, tying her career-best
  • Campbell out-rebounded the Highlanders 44-33 including holding a 21-5 margin on the offensive glass
  • Ashley Tudor led the Highlanders with 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench while Tina Lindenfeld finished with nine points and seven boards
