Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. - Campbell's bid for its second Big South Championship title in program history came up short on Sunday, falling 62-46 against top-seeded High Point at the Millis Center on Sunday.
The Panthers earned an automatic-bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win and a 22-6 overall record. Campbell drops to 16-7 on the season after making its second appearance in the Big South Championship title game in three years.
Campbell held pace with the Panthers through much of the first quarter as Lauren McNamara-Clement settled in the paint to score eight points. High Point ended the opening period on a 10-1 run, leading 24-13.
High Point entered halftime leading 38-21 and pushed its advantage to as many as 18 (43-25) on a three from Mya Bull with 5:33 to go in the third quarter. Campbell rallied back to cut the Panthers lead to single-digits (43-36) as Faith Price scored eight straight.
Luana Serranho and Brittany Staves hit consecutive three-pointers and a lay-in by Taya Bolden to start the fourth quarter made it a five-point game with 6:34 remaining. With a 49-44 lead the Panthers scored 11 straight, allowing just one Campbell bucket to close out the game.
Jenson Edwards was named the tournament's MVP behind a game-high 19 points while also adding six boards and five assists. Skyler Curran, the Big South Player of the Year, added 14 points and seven boards while Callie Scheier and Mya Bull each added nine off the bench for the Panthers.
McNamara-Clement finished with 12 points, helping the Camels outscore High Point 26-16 in the paint. Staves and Price each finished with nine points while Shy Tuelle had five points with a team-high seven boards and four assists.
Both McNamara-Clement and Tuelle earned All-Tournament honors for the Camels.
