Ashley Sloup named assistant men's golf coach

Joins Fighting Camels from Furman

BUIES CREEK N.C. – Head coach John Crooks has announced the hiring of former Carolinas Amateur champion Ashley Sloup as assistant men's golf coach at Campbell University.  Sloup joins the Fighting Camels after serving as assistant women's coach at Furman University since 2019.

"I think Ashley was put on this planet to be a coach," said Crooks, who is in his 31st year at the post.  "She has been a winner in everything she has attempted. Her high standards and expectations will help our men become the best possible version of themselves. I am excited to have Ashley join us and excited for our men to have a fresh, new perspective."

A three-time All-Big South Conference performer and 2015 all-freshman team member at Winthrop, she is one of only 32 players in Big South women's golf history to earn all-league recognition at least three times.

Sloup was a four-time member of the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team and was a three-time Big South All-Academic team honoree.  A three-time top-10 finisher in the Big South Championship, Sloup helped lead Winthrop to a runner-up finish in her senior season when she placed sixth individually.  She won four tournaments in her collegiate career and helped the Eagles claim four team titles.

Following graduation, Sloup served one year as assistant coach at Northwood University in Midland, Mich., where she coached the team's second-ever NCAA National Championship qualifier.

During her tenure at Furman, Sloup coached Natalie Srinivasan, the No.-1 ranked player in the country who earned the Annika and Juli Inkster awards.

"I am beyond grateful to legendary Coach John Crooks for believing in me and providing me the opportunity to be his men's assistant golf coach at Campbell University," said Sloup.  "To be the first female men's coach in Campbell golf history is not only ground breaking, but truly the greatest honor. I am so appreciative of the men's team being so welcoming, respectful, and supportive. They are truly world-class gentlemen and talented is an understatement. I'm so ready to assist Coach Crooks to lead these talented players and program to extraordinary new heights and help guide them to continue to be, and become the best people they can be."

A native of Southport, N.C., Sloup earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications with a minor in human resource management from Winthrop in 2018.

She joins a program that has advanced to four-straight NCAA regional championships and won two of the last three Big South Conference titles.

Campbell continues its spring schedule this weekend at the Tar Heel Invitational at UNC Finley Golf Course.
