BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Campbell women's soccer picked up its second road win of the season on Sunday night with a convincing 5-0 result over Gardner-Webb featuring two goals from Emma Bushee on a rain-filled field at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
"I am beyond proud of our team for tonight's performance," head coach Samar Azem said following the win. "They presented a professionalism on this trip to execute and get the job done. We were proud of the way the players adapted to the conditions and we saw a lot of people on the bench and on the field rise today."
Unbeaten in its last four matches, the Fighting Camels improve to 4-3-1 (4-2-1 Big South) this season while the Runnin' Bulldogs fall to 2-4-2 (2-3-2) on the year.
Taking time to adjust to field conditions, Bushee eventually broke a stalemate 38 minutes in to the match as she scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Elyssa Nowowieski.
Nowowieski later provided a goal of her own in the 60th minute as the sophomore scored on an assist by Ashleigh Harris. Bushee provided an insurance goal in the 66th minute marking her second score of the evening.
Taryn Phillips (86th minute) along with Cazzi Norgren (89th) each provided late goals as the Camels earned its fourth Big South win of the season.
Campbell outshot Gardner-Webb 23-4 as the Runnin' Bulldogs first scoring opportunity of the match didn't come until the 64th minute. The Camels also won 15 corners to Gardner-Webb's one.
Goalkeepers Stephanie Martelli and Reaghan Duval combined for the shutout, as Martelli provided two saves in 73 minutes of action.
"It's exciting to see us start to find our identity in front of goal consistently and we did very well to get the shutout against a tough, hardworking opponent. Â A lot of players are finding the rhythm in the attacking third from assists to goals to creating dangerous opportunities. We will enjoy this win and get back to work this week as we continue to grow and get better."
Campbell returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Winthrop in the final regular season home match of the season. Kickoff from Eakes Athletics Complex is slated for 7:00 p.m.
