COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - It was a tale of two games for the Camels who split their two games on the second day of the Reveille Classic today, defeating Lamar 9-1, before falling to host Texas A&M 1-0.
After today, Campbell's record moves to 5-7 on the season with Lamar going to 2-16 and Texas A&M to 9-2.
Game 1 - Campbell 9, Lamar 1
Georgeanna Barefoot (2-0), was dominant in the circle for the Camels throwing five and third innings only giving up one run on five hits, striking out four on her way to the win.
The offense would provide plenty of support with nine runs, the first of which came in the first inning as
Claire Blount doubled to center-field scoring
Claudia Ware.
The bats would then remain quiet until the sixth inning which saw the Camels post six total runs.
Kayla Fredendall would get things started with a sacrifice fly to center scoring Blount, then
Sterling Hairston would double to left-center scoring
Bri Bryant making it 3-0 Camels.
Sterling Hairston would later capitalize on a wild pitch that ended up at the backstop, scoring from third.
Freshman
Delaney McDilda would then clear the bases taking a 3-2 fastball deep for her first collegiate home run for three more runs, pushing the Camels advantage to 7-0.
Lamar would get one run back with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth cutting the deficit to six.
Any thoughts of a comeback would be put away as
Kayla Howald would come in to pitch in relief shutting the Cardinals the rest of the way.
Katelyn Chisholm would put the exclamation point on the victory with her two-RBI single to left field in the seventh, making the final score 9-1.
Lamar's Aaliyah Ruiz (1-4) took the loss, giving up seven earned runs off twelve hits in six and two-thirds innings pitched.
Game 2 - Texas A&M 1, Campbell 0
Any offensive momentum the Camels had from their first game of the day came to an abrupt stop against the Aggies.
Texas A&M pitcher Kelsey Broadus (1-1) would no-hit the Camels pitching a masterful seven complete innings, with no runs or hits and only giving up four walks, striking out 12 of 23 batters faced.
Megan Richards (1-1), would pitch a nearly flawless game herself for the Camels. The redshirt senior pitched a complete six innings, only allowing one hit and one unearned run, striking out seven Aggies in the narrow loss.
The closest the Camels would come to scoring would come in the second inning as pinch-runner
Zaria Dunlap would steal second before being stranded as
Morgan Rios would strikeout to end the inning.
The Aggies would score the only run of the game in the third off an errant throw by
Delaney McDilda on a sacrifice bunt to third base that would allow the runner to score from second.
The Camels would only have one more base runner the rest of the game, as Broadus' pitching led the way to an Aggies 1-0 victory.
