Campbell comes up short at Radford 2-1

Peabody nets goal for Campbell

RADFORD, VA. - Radford scored two goals in the first half and held off an aggressive Campbell attack, defeating the Camels 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Cupp Stadium.

Radford scored early in the 6th minute as Maevyn Jones netted a goal on an assist from Alexeis Kirnos. The Highlanders added an insurance goal in the 27th minute on a goal from Reese Degnan.

Laney Peabody scored her first goal in a Campbell uniform on a header after receiving the ball from Amber Liston on a corner kick in the 66th minute.

Campbell maintained control the majority of the game, holding a 16-5 shot advantage over the Highlanders including a 7-2 shots on goal edge. The Camels also had 14 corner kicks to Radford's four. Peabody and Liston led the Camels recording three shots on goal apiece.

After allowing two goals on two shots in the first half, the Campbell backline locked down Radford's attack allowing the Highlanders just three shots the remainder of the match.

The Camels had several opportunities to equalize as Jessica Donald put a shot on frame in the 75th minute while both Peabody and Liston had shots in the 90th minute.

Campbell returns to the Eakes Athletics Complex next Sunday, March 14 against USC Upstate.
