Camels pick up pair of wins over Charleston Southern

Bryant hits three home runs in 10-1 run-rule win in game one

BUIES CREEK - Campbell softball outscored Charleston Southern a combined 16-2 to win both games of Saturday's doubleheader. The Camels took game one 10-1 in five innings while closing out game two with a 6-1 final score.

The Camels now improve to 19-11 overall and 10-1 in Big South play after winning its 10th straight conference game.

Bri Bryant dominated the day going 6-7 across both games including a three home run performance in game one. Bryant drove in six runs from the leadoff position and stole three bases as well. Kayla Fredendall and Sterling Hairston each had home runs in game two as well.

Georgeanna Barefoot and Megan Richards each pitched complete games between both games. Barefoot picked up her ninth win of the season (9-5) while Richards earned her seventh (7-2).


GAME 1 (Campbell wins 10-1 in 5 innings)
After an error allowed Charleston Southern to score a run in the top of the first, Campbell answered back scoring 10 unanswered runs en route to a run-rule victory in five innings.

Delaney McDilda drove in two runs on a hit up the middle of the field later in the first as the Camels regained the lead.

Bryant followed it up by hitting three home runs, each over the left, center and right field walls, marking her first multi-hit game since her freshman season in 2018.

Noemi Cortez drove in two runs as a pinch hitter, hitting a deep double to center field in the fifth. Bryant stepped up next, crushing her third homer scoring three runs to end the game early.

Barefoot picked up the win after allowing four hits and no earned runs.

GAME 2 (Campbell wins 6-1)
Fredendall and Hairston each had a home run in consecutive innings giving the Camels a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth.

Claire Blount drove in another run in the fifth on a double to left center while Claudia Ware made it 6-0 in the sixth on her second double of the day.

Charleston Southern scored its lone run of the game in the 7th as the Camels allowed the run to score on a 6-4-3 double play.

Richards picked up the win after striking out six batters on the day and allowing just one earned run.

Campbell returns to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium tomorrow for the series finale against the Buccaneers on ESPN3. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
