BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University junior Anna Nordfors was named Big South Conference women's golfer of the year by league head coaches.
 
Nordfors was joined on the all-conference team by junior Emily Hawkins and senior Isabell Ekstrom.  Patricia Garre Muñoz was named to the all-freshman team, while Ekstrom was chosen for the all-academic team.
 
The highest-ranked player in the Big South at No. 66 in the Golfstat rankings, Nordfors is the fifth-consecutive Campbell player to be named the league's golfer of the year.  Nadine White (2016), Annelie Sjoholm (20017, 2018) and Emily Hawkins (2019) combined to win the last four awards.  The 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
In four events this season, Nordfors has combined 72.18 stroke average – best in the league – and finished among the top-20 individuals all four times.  She claimed her first collegiate victory last month at the Eagle Invitational (72-73—145) and finished as individual runner-up in the Big South Championship (68-71-74—213) while guiding the Camels to their fifth-straight league title.  She shot a collegiate low 4-under 66 – two strokes off the school record – at the Florida Gators Invitational, where she finished 11th.
 
Nordfors' 73.036 stroke average (over 56 rounds) is the best in program history, which dates to the 1989-90 season.
 
Since re-joining the Big South in 2011-12, Campbell players have been chosen Big South golfer of the year seven of the past nine times the award was presented.  Kaylin Yost won the honor in both 2012 and 2014.
 
Ekstrom earned all-conference honors for the third time in her career.  The 2018 Big South individual champion and freshman of the year, she owns a 74.18 stroke average – fourth-best in program history – over 78 career rounds.  In addition, she has helped Campbell win three-straight league titles and earn as many NCAA postseason bids.  She won both of her matches in the inaugural Big South match play championship (4&3 in the semifinals and 5&3 in the final) to lead CU to its ninth-consecutive NCAA regional appearance.
 
A two-time WGCA All-America Scholar, Ekstrom owns a 3.86 grade-point average as a marketing and management double major.
 
Hawkins, who was just the third player in Big South women's history to earn golfer and freshman of the year honors in the same season (2019), claimed all-league recognition for the second time.  Her 73.662 scoring average over 65 rounds is the third-lowest in school history.  She has two-top 10 finishes in as many Big South Championship appearances, including a T6 this season.
 
The field for the NCAA women's golf regional championships will be announced on Wed., Apr. 28 on Golf Channel.  Regionals will be hosted by LSU, Ohio State, Louisville and Stanford May 10-12 with the NCAA Championship set for May 21-26 at Grayhawk Gc in Scottsdale, Ariz.
