Camels finish fifth in first event of season

Clemson, SC - The Fighting Camels finished fifth in the first event of the 2025-26 season, the Tiger Classic at Clemson's Walker Golf Course. The one-day, 36-hole event was a tale of two rounds for the Camels with Campbell carding a 16-over in the first round before bouncing back to shoot even par in the second, leaving the Camels with a 16-over for the tournament.

Clemson claimed the team title on its home course, while Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang (Charlotte), Juliette Demeaux (Clemson) and Neeranuch Prajunpanich (Youngstown State) all tied for the individual crown at 7-under.

Taylah Ellems, who entered the tournament as an individual, matched her collegiate low (72-69--141) in the second round, finished 3-under for the tournament, and posted her best collegiate finish (T6) in the 70-golfer field. Isabella Hahne (73-70--143) finished 1-under and tied for 10th as Campbell's low scorer on the team side.

The day began with a one-hour delay to allow the course to dry following heavy rains overnight. The 36-hole shotgun start got underway at 9 a.m.

Fanni Gronlund led the way for the Camels in the first round, carding a 1-under 71. Gronlund birdied three of four holes to close the front nine, and picked up another on 18 to finish in the red in the first round, tied for sixth-place among all individuals. The sophomore gave one shot back in the second round with a 1-over 73 to finish even for the tournament.

Isabella Hahne had an up-and-down first round with four bogeys and three birdies to leave her at 1-over after 18 holes. Hahne turned in CU's best round of the day in her second round, carding three birdies and only one bogey on the par-three 17th hole to fire a 2-under en route to her 1-under 143 for the day.

Izabella Grimbrandt rounded out the scoring with a 79 in the first round before improving to a 73 in the second to finish 8-over on the day.

Freshman Linn Svedlund got off to a slow start in her first collegiate round with an 83, but bounced back in a big way to shoot even par in the second round. Thanks to her second round, Svedlund became CU's fourth scorer for the tournament finishing at 11-over.

Ellems had a tidy first round shooting even par, including making eight pars on the back nine. She got hot in the second round going 3-under, including an eagle on the 460-yard, par 5 ninth hole for Campbell's only eagle on the day, and the only one made on that hole for the tournament.

The Camels return to action Sept. 7-9 at the Fall Golfweek Challenge at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawley's Island, SC.
