Six home runs power Campbell to 19-1 win

Buies Creek, N.C. – Six home runs powered Campbell to a 19-1 Friday night win over UNC Asheville. The pitching staff also had a big game holding the Bulldogs to just one run, helping Campbell to its largest margin of victory this season.

With the win, Campbell improves to 21-13 and 16-9 in the Big South, while Asheville falls to 13-22, 12-15 in the league.

The home run barrage began with a Zach Neto solo shot in the bottom of the first. Spencer Packard and Collin Wolf then went back-to-back in the third inning, Packard's being a three-run blast. Campbell hit two more home runs in the fifth, one each from Connor Denning and Matthew Christian. Neto capped the night with another solo home run in the seventh.

Already up 7-0 heading to the fifth, Campbell exploded for nine runs in the inning marking its biggest single frame of the season. Campbell notched two singles, a double, a triple and two home runs in the inning while sending 12 batters to the plate to push the lead to 16-0.

Even with the home runs, some small ball was also a factor. Ty Babin dropped down a safety squeeze in the second inning to plate a run and an error on stolen base attempt led to another run.

Asheville's lone run came on a solo home run by Brandon Lankford to lead off the sixth inning.

Cade Kuehler got the start on the mound and went a career-long 5.1 innings to earn the win. He finished with a line of 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 Ks. The quartet of Tyler, O'Brien, Williford and Rund combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless innings and strike out six to close out the ballgame.

Nine different Camels recorded a hit and four had multiple hits. Zach Neto led the way with a 3-5 night with two home runs and scored four times. Packard and Denning each had three RBI to lead nine Camels driving in at least one run.

NOTABLES
The 18-run win gives Campbell its largest margin of victory since beating UNC Asheville 21-1 on March 23, 2019.

Six home runs in the game were the most by Campbell since also going deep six times against Charleston Southern on March 17, 2018 during an 18-2 win.

Neto notched his first career multi-home run game to give him eight on the season. His night helped his season average improve to .423 and his OBP get above .500, now at .504.

Neto got the start at shortstop tonight, making it the fifth different position he has started at. He's now played every spot in the infield and pitched.
