Game 1 Recap
There was plenty of early offense in the first game of the day. One unearned run put the Highlanders on the board in the first, but Campbell came right back with a three-run second inning.
Collin Wolf got the inning started with a one-out triple, the first of four consecutive hits followed by a safety squeeze laid down by
Ty Babin to cap the inning.
Wolf collected his second hit of the day with an RBI single to push the lead to 4-1 in the third, but Radford responded with two in the third and one more run in the fourth to even the score at 4-4 through four innings.
Still square heading to the seventh, a
Zach Neto sac fly and
Spencer Packard single put the Camels back on top at 6-4. With runners on the corners and nobody out in the bottom of the frame,
Brendan Wright dialed up three consecutive outs to escape the jam untouched and preserve the two-run lead.
Campbell added some late insurance with a three-run eighth to extend the lead to 9-4, scoring on another Babin safety squeeze, an error and an RBI double by
Connor Denning. Christian added one more in the ninth on a solo shot (14) to give the Camels double digit runs and push it to 10-4.
Ryan Chasse was chased after just 3.2 innings and allowing four runs, two earned and striking out four. Wright turned in his longest outing of the season to earn the win, going 3.1 scoreless innings in relief allowing only two hits. Neto also took the mound, tossing the final 2.0 innings allowing a hit and no runs.
Highlander starter Greg Duncan was tagged with the loss after tossing 6.0 innings and allowing five runs, four earned.
Game 2 Recap
Thomas Harrington was locked in on the mound and turned in 5.0 scoreless innings for the Camels to earn his fourth win of the year. He did allow the basepaths to be busy, surrendering three hits and five walks, but worked around trouble and left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Campbell bats didn't put up the huge numbers they have in the previous few conference games, but did plenty given the pitching performance. Campbell got on the board in the second inning with an unearned run as the Highlanders threw it away trying to turn two.
The Camels took advantage of another Highlander miscue that allowed
Grant Harris to score unearned before Arias scored on a wild pitch during the ensuing at bat.
Two more runs in the sixth pushed the lead to 5-0, this time scoring one on a ground out and another on a steal-and-stop play with runners on the corners allowing
Spencer Packard to score.
After allowing a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to put Radford on the board, Christian answered with one of his own in the ninth (15
th of the year) to make the score 6-1, where it would stay for a final.
In addition to Harrington,
Ty Cummings pitched for the second straight day, this time throwing one scoreless inning.
Fred Sisco allowed three hits and a run across three innings to finish the game for the Camels
