Camels top Blue Hose in four sets

CLINTON, S.C. – Three Camels recorded double-doubles and Campbell (7-7, 2-0) posted a season-high in service aces to top Presbyterian (6-6, 1-1) in four sets Saturday afternoon.

The Camel attack was not very efficient and hit .098 on the evening with 27 errors, but did enough to get the win. The .098 is the lowest hitting percentage in a win this season for the Camels.

Five aces in the first set and strong back row defense helped the Camels to a 25-18 first set win. Campbell jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed as Cook and Miner had two aces each and Green added one during the first frame. The defense posted 24 digs in the first and held PC to hitting .057 in the first.

PC handed Campbell its first and only set loss of the weekend with a 25-22 second set. The Camels were well positioned at 16-11 before the Blue Hose put together an 8-1 run to take the lead for good. There were some self-inflicted wounds during the run with four attack errors during that span. Campbell did add four more aces during the set to match a season-high with nine total aces, taking only two sets to reach that mark.

Campbell retook the lead in the third thanks to an important 25-19 win. Leading just 10-9, the Camels rattled off a 7-0 run to take a commanding lead they would not relinquish. Campbell committed fewer attack errors in the set than each of the previous and did not allow Presbyterian to draw close.

The Camels were able to close out the match in the third with a nearly identical set to the third. This time tied at 9-9, another 7-0 run put the Camels out front for good and they were able to get home for another 25-19 set win. The set was capped by a Claranne Fechter ace, her third of the evening.

Campbell tallied 13 aces in the match, led by four from Chloe Cook and three each from Fechter and Miner.

Sarah Colla led the offense with 11 kills and Green added 10. Green, Miner and Mitter all tallied double-doubles on the afternoon.

Campbell returns home for the first time in nearly a month next weekend. Campbell will host UNC Asheville Friday at 6 p.m. and USC Upstate Saturday at 2 p.m. Each game will be available on ESPN+.
