BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Shy Tuelle scored 20 points, Luana Serranho added 15 to lead Campbell to a 66-53 win over Gardner-Webb Saturday at Paul Porter Arena.
Tuelle, who broke the program record with her 177th career three-pointer, made five threes and added five boards in 38 minutes.
Head coach Ronny Fisher picked up his 200th career victory, becoming the fifth head coach in Big South history to hit the milestone.
Svenia Nürenberg, who earned her first start of the season, scored eight of her 13 points in the opening quarter for the Camels (7-3, 1-0) who picked up their first Big South win this year.
Serranho made 5-of-7 shots and recorded a season-best seven assists while Brittany Staves scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards.
Lyrissia Deans led Gardner-Webb (3-10, 1-1) with 14 points while Jhessyka Williams (12 points, 10 boards) and Alasia Smith (12 points, 13 boards) recorded double-doubles. The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 10.0% from behind the arc making 2-of-20 threes.
Gardner-Webb cut Campbell's lead to four with 4:18 remaining on Deans' turnaround jumper in the paint but drew no closer. Staves scored eight straight and Serranho made a free throw to give Campbell a 13 point lead, its largest of the evening, to close out the game.
The Camels, who led for 37 minutes, shot 47.8% from the field (22-46) and made 10 three pointers.
Campbell returns to action hosting North Carolina A&T in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday at Gore Arena.
