FARMVILLE, VA. – Longwood shot 73 percent in the second half and went on to defeat Campbell 72-64 Wednesday night at Willett Hall.
The Lancers (11-5, 3-0) made 6-of-10 threes and 16-of-22 shots overall (.727) after intermission to overcome a nine-point deficit early in the final period.
Jordan Perkins came off the bench to lead Longwood with 14 points. Leslie Nkereuwem, Isaiah Wilkins and Justin Hill added 12 each for the Lancers, who shot 55 percent for the game (27-49) and improved to 10-1 at home this year.
Austin McCullough led Campbell (9-7, 2-3) with a season-high 17 points.
Jordan Whitfield added 16 for the Camels, who shot 57 percent in the opening period, but just 41 percent after halftime.
Whitfield's 3-point play extended a 6-point halftime lead to 36-27 with 19:23 remaining, but Wilkins connected beyond the arc and Jesper Granlund knocked down consecutive triples to bring Longwood within 38-36.
Jesus Carralero's bucket gave the Camels a 53-51 lead with 8:11 to play, but Longwood responded with an 11-2 run capped by Perkins' corner three with 4:49 remaining.
McCullough's 3-point play with 3:21 left cut the gap to 62-58, but the Camels drew no closer down the stretch.
Longwood made seven of its first nine shots and jumped to a 16-6 lead on Perkins' three-point play with 13:41 left in the opening half.
However, the Camels responded by scoring 14 unanswered points and went in front 20-16 on McCullough's layup with 8:12 to play.
Campbell made 10-of-13 (.769) shots from two-point range and led 33-27 at the break. Longwood shot 40.7 percent in the first half, but was only 4 of its last 18 (.222) from the floor.
- Campbell has held 14 of its 16 opponents below 70 points and entered Wednesday's game ranked first in the Big South, 20th in the nation, in scoring defense (60.0).
