RADFORD, VA. –
Tyler Young set up both goals and Campbell defeated Radford 2-1 Saturday at Cupp Stadium.
Coming off its first league loss since the 2020-21 season, Campbell improved to 8-3-3 overall, 4-1-1 in the Big South Conference while moving to 5-1-1 over its last seven outings. Radford, which entered on a three-game win streak, dropped to 4-8-1, 3-3-0 in the league.
Kyoji Hata and
Adrian Morales scored, and
Edu Rodriguez made four saves for the Camels, who are unbeaten this season (8-0-3) when scoring at least once.
Campbell nearly took the lead in the 25th minute when Young's header caromed off the crossbar.
Just 10 minutes later, however, the Camels went in front.
Gerard Broussard played the ball down the left side to Young, who curled a left-footed cross that
Kyoji Hata volleyed in for his second goal of the season.
However, Radford equalized on Tony Martinez' first goal of the year in the 41st minute.
In the 63rd minute, the Camels nearly grabbed the lead, but Young's shot in the box sailed over the bar.
Rodriguez kept the score level in the 67th minute when he dove to his right to stop a point-blank back heel volley by Jared Dubose.
Young again played provider in the go-ahead goal when he sent a pass down the right flank.
Daniel Osei-Tutu squared the ball in the box to Morales, who struck a one-timer inside the left post from about 12 yards for his third goal of the year.
Campbell finished with a 14-10 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and ran its win streak against the Highlanders to five matches.
NOTES: Campbell improved to 31-2-5 in its last 38 games (regular season and tournament) vs. Big South foes, including a 25-2-3 mark in regular season play over the last four seasons...
