ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Campbell won its eighth in a row with a straight-set win at UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon. Eight straight wins is the longest winning streak since the 1997 team had two separate win streaks of 16 and nine.
The Bulldogs had no answer for the Campbell attack that hit an even .400, the second time reaching that mark this season. The Camels committed only eight attack errors to tie their season low.
Campbell rolled to an opening set 25-13 win. Campbell hit a big .448 while holding the Bulldogs to .074. Five Camels tallied multiple kills in the first set, led by four from
Melody Paige.
The second set continued to plague the Camels, but still earned a 25-23 set win. Five attack errors and three service errors allowed the Bulldogs to hang around in the frame. Tied at 23-23, Paige helped the Camels take the set with a kill and teaming up with
Gwen Wolkow for a block.
Campbell bounced back with the largest set win of the day to close it out.
Chloe Cook paced the attack with four kills as the Camels again hit over .400 in the stanza.
Cook's 10 kills led a very balanced attack that saw five Camels notch seven or more.
Aley Clent was highly efficient with her attack, notching seven kills and zero errors. Clent wraps up the weekend with 19 kills and zero errors after playing error free yesterday at Upstate.
Emily Mitter collected a match-high 23 assists, and
Claranne Fechter led all players with 18 digs.
Campbell returns home for a pair of matches in Gore Arena next Thursday and Friday evenings against Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb. Both matches are set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
