WILMINGTON, N.C. – The 55th men's soccer meeting between Campbell and UNC Wilmington ended in a 1-1 draw Tuesday night in the final non-conference regular season match for both schools.
Tyler Young scored in the first half for Campbell (8-3-5), while Jalen Anderson hit the nets for the fourth-straight outing for the Seahawks (6-3-6). Both the Camels (Big South) and Seahawks (CAA) stand second in their respective league table and have upcoming matches that will determine regular season titles and conference tournament seeding.
"Tonight was an unusual midweek game with both teams having an eye on the weekend," said Campbell head coach
Dustin Fonder. "That said, I'm proud of our guys going in and turning in a good performance and looking to build on that going forward."
UNCW finished with a 14-11 edge in shots, 5-3 in shots on target, while the Camels took five corner kicks to three for the hosts.
Edu Rodriguez finished with four saves in the Camel nets, while Gabriel Perrotta had two stops for the Seahawks.
Young put the Camels in front when he finished a 27th-minute counterattack.
Kyoji Hata played the ball wide down the right side to
Daniel Hernandez, who squared it across the box. Young met the ball with a volley into the top left corner for his second goal of the season.
Just over 10 minutes later, Anderson tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the year off an assist from Bachir Ndiaye to draw UNCW level.
