BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After a 48-18 win over North Carolina Central, Campbell's
Hajj-Malik Williams and
Jalen Kelsey have been named Big South Conference players of the week.
Williams was tabbed the league's offensive player of the week, while Kelsey earned top special teams honors.
A quarterback from Atlanta, Ga., Williams combined for 294 yards in CU's
win over NC Central, completing 22-of-33 passes for 248 yards while adding 46 yards rushing with a touchdown. Williams' 66.7 percent completion percentage was a career-best in a game with 20 or more completions for the redshirt junior, who also scampered for a 17 yard touchdown in the second quarter, putting CU up 24-0. He also ran for 24 yards, a season-long run, to set up
Caleb Dowden's first quarter field goal.
Kelsey, meanwhile, gave Campbell its first non-offensive touchdown of the season, scooping up the ball at the goal line after
Alex Santiago's blocked punt to give the Camels a 48-12 lead over NCCU in the fourth quarter. The Camels' fourth quarter blocked punt returned for a touchdown was the third in Campbell history. Kelsey also added five catches for 47 yards against the Eagles.
Through four games, Camels have earned Big South weekly honors five times.
Campbell returns to action on Saturday, October 8, on homecoming with a 4:00 p.m. kickoff
against Charleston Southern in its Big South Conference opener.
