FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Nationally ranked Michigan and North Carolina defeated Campbell Friday night in the Battle at Bragg, hosted by the Camels in conjunction with the United States Army, at the Pope Army Airfield at Fort Bragg.
The Veterans Day event, brought to you by Cliff Keen, was streamed live, globally, via UFC Fight Pass, in association with Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
The No. 5 Wolverines topped CU 26-6 to open the event, and the 16
th-ranked Tar Heels dealt the Camels a 24-10 loss in the nightcap.
Michigan claimed the match's first five bouts to go ahead 16-0, including a last seconds takedown for Kurt McHenry at 125 pounds to clip No. 24 Anthony Molton, 4-3. The 125 pound match was the first of six between the Camels and Wolverines decided by two or fewer points.
Freshman Dom Baker put Campbell on the board at 165, going up 4-0 in the first period with a takedown and two back points, holding off Inninpoins. Zack Mattin.
In the second match of the night, North Carolina won at seven weight classes to earn the dual victory. After No. 30
Troy Nation brought Campbell within 9-6, the Tar Heels notched the next four bouts, including major decisions for Nick Fea at 165 and No. 12 Gavin Kane at 184.
Next up, select Camels will head to the Georgia Open on Sunday, November 13, as well as the Life University Open on Saturday, November 19. CU will head to the Army Black Knight Invitational on November 20 before making its home debut on December 4, hosting Virginia.
