Campbell announces 2023 schedule

BUIES CREEK - Campbell has released its 2023 schedule, featuring 24 home games and 31 road games across the 55-game slate. The defending Big South champions will be playing their final season in the Big South conference before moving to the Colonial Athletic Association following the 2023 season.

Opening Day is set for Feb. 17, when Campbell will host Rutgers at Jim Perry Stadium. Campbell hosts non-conference series against Rutgers (Feb. 17-19) and Butler (Feb. 24-26) early in the year.

During midweeks throughout the season, Campbell will welcome ECU (Feb. 22), Coastal Carolina (Apr. 11-12), Duke (Apr. 25), Elon (May 3), and UNCW (May 9). The matchups with ECU and Coastal Carolina are part of longer three-game series. The Camels will play a home/road/neutral series with ECU, featuring a neutral site game at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville on Mar. 22, and making the return trip to Greenville on May 16. Campbell makes its trip to Conway, SC to complete the season series with Coastal on Mar. 14.

Road non-conference series includes at UL Lafayette (Mar. 3-5), at Tulane (Mar. 7-8), at App State (Mar. 10-12).

In addition to ECU and Coastal, non-conference midweek trips include playing at William & Mary (Mar. 28), at Duke (Apr. 4), at UNCW (Apr. 18), at Elon (Apr. 26), and at North Carolina (May 2).

Campbell will host Winthrop on Mar. 17-19 for the Big South opener, the first of four home series against Big South foes. Campbell will also host Charleston Southern (Mar. 31-Apr. 2), High Point (Apr. 21-23), and Gardner-Webb (May 12-14) in Big South series.

On the road in league play, Campbell will visit Radford (Mar. 24-26), Presbyterian (Apr. 6-8), Longwood (Apr. 14-16), UNC Asheville (May 5-7) and USC Upstate for the regular season finale (May 18-20).

Last season, Campbell played the No. 12 non-conference strength of schedule and collected six wins against top-50 teams en route to a fourth consecutive Big South regular season championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

This offseason, Campbell was tabbed the No. 46 program in the country by D1Baseball.

"This is one of the hottest mid-major programs in the country, and it feels like only a matter of time until Campbell wins a regional and makes a run at Omaha," Aaron Fitt wrote for D1Baseball.com.

This year's team figures to be another talented one with depth at all positions, and six total all-Big South players from 2022 returning for the Camels.Things start with junior Cade Kuehler, a righty that pitched for the USA Collegiate National Team this summer. Kuehler set the program's single-season strikeout record in 2022 with 111 Ks in 84.0 innings of work.

He'll be joined on the mound by juniors Ty Cummings and Cade Boxrucker who each had big summers in the Cape Cod league.

Six starters from the usual batting order last season return. Among those, last year's leading home run hitters, Jarrod Belbin and Drake Pierson, (19 HR each) are back. The entire starting outfield of Logan Jordan, Tyler Halstead and Lawson Harrill returns as well.
