GREENVILLE, N.C. – RJ Felton scored a career-high 25 points and East Carolina withstood a late Campbell rally to claim a 79-69 win Friday night at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum
Felton's career-best seventh three-pointer of the night gave the Pirates (6-3) their largest lead (67-45) with 6:43 to play, but the Camels responded with a 22-6 run over the next six minutes.
Joshua Lusane's reverse layup trimmed the gap to 73-67 with 49 seconds to play, but Javon Small converted a pair of one-and-one opportunities and Jaden Walker another front and back end over the final 46.5 seconds to secure the win.
The Pirates made all 11 of their free throws in the second half, 8-of-8 in the last 2:45, and 15-of-17 (.882).
Brandon Johnson added 16 points and 10 rebounds for ECU, while Walker finished with 13 points and Ezra Ausar 10 for the Pirates, who shot 46 percent (26-56) overall, and made 12-of-27 (.444) triples. Small finished with 9 points, 9-of-9 from the line, and dealt 11 assists.
Lusane led Campbell (4-4) with 16 points, plus four assists and four steals.
Anthony Dell'Orso (14) and
Juan Reyna (11) combined for 25 points off the bench, while
Jay Pal had 10 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double in a Camel uniform.
Ricky Clemons finished with eight points, five assists and three steals.
ECU closed the first half on a 17-2 run, held the Camels without a field goal over the final 5:35, and led 41-26 at the break. Felton scored nine of his 14 first-half points in the span on a trio of threes.
On the night, Campbell shot 43 percent overall, made 8-of-25 (.320) beyond the arc, and 9-of-13 (.692) from the stripe.
Campbell returns to action Wednesday (Dec. 7) at Evansville in an 8:00 p.m. (EST) tip.
