UNCW rallies for 74-66 win over Campbell

Dell'Orso scores career-high 20 points

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A late 15-3 run lifted UNC Wilmington to a 74-66 win over Campbell Wednesday afternoon at Gore Arena.

UNCW (10-3) trailed 60-54 with 6:51 to play after Anthony Dell'Orso made two technical free throws but hit six-straight shots in its decisive burst to run its win streak to nine games.

With only eight scholarship players available because of illness and injury, the Camels (5-7) shot 52 percent on the day and finished with a 27-24 edge on the boards, but could not hold on down the stretch.

Maleeck Harden-Hayes came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting – including 4-of-4 threes – for the Seahawks.  Trazarien White added 15 points and seven rebounds, Shykeim Phillips had 14 points and Donovan Newby 11 for UNCW, which shot 68 percent in the second half (17-25) and 58 percent (28-48) for the game.

Dell'Orso, who was named Big South freshman of the week two days ago, hit season highs with 20 points and nine rebounds.  Jay Pal added 13 points – 11 in the second half – and eight boards.  Ricky Clemons chipped in 11 for the Camels.

Campbell hit four-straight shots in a 12-3 run – including back-to-back threes by Dell'Orso – and Pal's slam in transition before the UNCW bench was hit with a technical foul.  However, the Camels made just one shot from the floor in the final 4:49.

Campbell shot 60 percent from the floor in the opening half and took a 35-29 lead at the break.  Lusane scored nine first-half points and dealt two assists, while Dell'Orso added seven points.  UNCW shot 47.8 percent (11-23) in the first period

The Camels open Big South Conference play next Thursday (Dec. 29) at Presbyterian before hosting Longwood Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.
