Buies Creek, N.C. –
Thomas Harrington was named Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week following his opening day performance.
The Sanford, N.C. product was tabbed the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year and lived up to that expectation on opening day. Harrington posted a dazzling line of 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 13 K en route to a 9-0 Campbell win over Appalachian State. Thirteen strikeouts are a new career-high for the sophomore, surpassing his previous best of 11.
Harrington struck out one batter in the first, and then multiple batters in each of the next five innings, including striking out the side in both the third and sixth innings.
Ryan Chasse followed his performance with five more strikeouts over the final three innings giving Campbell 18 for the game, the most in a single game since at least 2006.
This is Harrington's second Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week award of his career, also having picked it up on May 17, 2021 after his complete-game one-hitter at USC Upstate.
Campbell returns to action at home tomorrow night against No. 25 East Carolina. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
