Lacrosse heads to Elon on Wednesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell will take on Elon on Wednesday on the road. The nonconference matchup is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at Rudd Field.

Campbell (1-1) is coming off a 16-13 loss at Davidson. Against the Wildcats, trailing 14-9 at the 14:04 mark in the fourth, Campbell answered with three straight goals in 2:14 from Mackenzie Kolesar, Julianna Sanchez and Megan Matthews, making it a two score game with 10:46 on the clock. Gianna New, however, netted two of her game-high five goals for the Wildcats, the second with 1:50 to play.

Davidson held CU off the board from 10:46 until Sanchez' second goal of the night with 25 seconds remaining.

Sam Bischoff and Matthews led Campbell with four points on three goals and an assist apiece, while Ally Heath scored three goals with four ground balls. In addition to her two goals, Sanchez added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Emma Strickland also collected 14 saves with a team-high five ground balls.

The Camels began their 10th season of competition with a 19-8 win at Stetson on February 12, picking up a victory to open the season for the first time in 2013, defeating the Hatters for the second straight year.

For the season, Bischoff leads the Camels with nine points on six goals and three assists, adding five ground balls, while Matthews owns five goals and three helpers. Heath has also scored six goals, with Strickland picking up a team-high seven ground balls.

The Phoenix are 0-4 to start the year after a challenging first four games of the season, falling to three ranked foes (No. 11 Virginia, No. 8 Duke, No. 22 Vanderbilt), as well as an overtime loss to Coastal Carolina.

Gillian Curran leads the way for Elon with 19 points on 14 goals and five assists, while Bella Feldmann tacks on 10 goals. Kailee Follette has also registered five caused turnovers with eight ground balls.

Campbell is 1-4 all-time against Elon, with the Phoenix taking last season's matchup 13-9 in Buies Creek.

Next up, Campbell will head to Old Dominion on Saturday, March 5. Following a neutral site matchup with Bucknell in Sparks, Md. on March 7, the Camels will make their home debut on March 19, hosting William & Mary.
