Camels begin Big South play at High Point

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell will kick off Big South Conference play at High Point on Wednesday. The opening draw is set for 5:00 p.m. at HPU's Vert Stadium.

The Camels (3-4, 0-0 Big South) are coming off a 13-10 home loss to East Carolina, jumping out to a 5-2 lead before the Pirates scored eight of the next nine goals.

Sam Bischoff led Campbell with two goals and an assist against ECU, with Shania Roehrich adding two goals with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Joslin Hanbury also scored twice for CU, while Julianna Sanchez, Mackenzie Kolesar and Rasa Welsh collected a goal and an assist each.

Annie Ryan registered three caused turnovers with two ground balls on the day, with Emma Strickland making eight saves.

For the season, Bischoff owns a team-high 27 points on 20 goals and seven assists, adding 10 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Megan Matthews, meanwhile, has tallied a team-high 13 assists with 11 goals, while Sanchez has posted 23 points, including 18 goals, with 62 draw controls, ranking fifth in the country with 8.86 draw controls per game.

Defensively, Ryan has caused a team-high nine turnovers, with Chandler Stewart registering seven caused turnovers and 11 ground balls. In goal, Emma Strickland has collected 58 saves.

Campbell's offensive attack ranks as one of the best in the nation, standing 18th overall in goals per game (15.14), as well as seventh in shots on goal per game (26.43) and ninth in draw controls per game (17.57).

HPU (1-7, 0-0 Big South), winners of the last four Big South championships, is coming off an 11-10 road loss at former conference foe Liberty on Saturday. Four of the Panthers' seven losses this season have come against ranked opponents, including a 23-9 defeat at the hands of No. 1 North Carolina.

Abby Hormes paces the Panthers with 33 points on 29 goals and four assists, tacking on 17 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and 40 draw controls. Jenna Kraft has also caused 12 turnovers with 18 ground balls.

The Panthers lead the all-time series with the Camels 12-0.

Campbell will return home on April 2, hosting Winthrop for its 2022 Senior Day and Alumni Day.
