FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Connor Denning singled home the winning run with one out in the ninth inning to lift Campbell to a 6-5 comeback win over Army Saturday in the All-American Classic at Segra Stadium.
The Camels (5-6) led 4-0 after seven innings before surrendering four unearned runs in the eighth. Army took the lead in the top of the ninth before Campbell rallied for its fourth-straight win.
Lawson Harrill led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to right, moved to second on
Ty Babin's sac bunt and third on
Tyler McPeak's infield hit.
Tyler Halstead bunted Harrill home with the tying run and reached when Army first baseman Ross Friedrick dropped the throw. Denning singled on a 3-1 pitch to end the ball game.
Ryan Chasse (1-0) earned the win after allowing one run on one hit and striking out two in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Camel starter
Cade Kuehler threw 6 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout ball and fanned 12 before being lifted after his 101st pitch.
Matthew Ronnebaum (0-1) took the loss in relief for Army.
Campbell scored three times in the first – on RBI doubles by Denning and
Zach Neto and
Jarrod Belbin's run scoring hit. Harrill added an RBI double in the fourth.
Denning finished 2-of-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI, while Neto and Harrill also delivered a pair of hits.
Friedrick's two-run double was the big blow for Army in its four-run eighth. Kevin Dubrule also drove in two for the Black Knights, who finished with just four hits.
After defeating Ohio State 7-2 Friday and Army Saturday, Campbell closes out play in the All-American Classic Saturday against Pittsburgh at 3:00 p.m.
