GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Thomas Harrington turned in another quality start and the offense stayed hot as Campbell secured the series with a 16-6 win over NC A&T Friday afternoon. With 16 runs, Campbell has now scored double digit runs in seven straight games, a new program record.
The win improvs Campbell to 21-12 and 10-1 in the Big South and extends the nation's second-longest winning streak to 11 games. The win was Campbell's 7
th straight road win, also good for the second-best streak in the country.
Harrington turned in his ninth quality start of the year (in nine starts) posting a final line of 6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K. It's his fifth start recording 10+ strikeouts this season.
Drake Pierson stayed red-hot at the plate, going 4-6 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI. In the first two games of this series, the San Diego, Calif. native is 7-10 with nine RBI and three home runs.
NC A&T starter Logan Jarosz issued walks to the first three batters of the game, to set up a Pierson bases-clearing double, part of a five-run first. A pair of unearned runs scored in the second and a three-run third inning highlighted by a
Logan Jordan double and
Waldy Arias RBI single pushed the lead to 10-0 through just 3.5 innings.
The Aggies got on the board with an unearned run in the fourth and scored after a fly ball got lost in the sun in the fifth, the only blemishes against Harrington on the day and cut the lead to 10-2.
After NC A&T cut the lead to 12-5 with a three-run seventh, the Camels responded with three of their own in the top of the eighth to push the lead back to 10.
Grant Knipp and
Waldy Arias contributed two hits each, with Knipp driving in three runs. Nine Camels combined for 14 hits on the afternoon.
Harrington picked up his nation's best eighth win of the season to improve to 8-1.
Cameron O'Brien,
Garret Kangas and
Cade Anderson all worked an inning each to finish the game.
A&T used eight pitchers on the day, with Jake Delisi going the longest at 3.0 innings. Jarosz got the start in the loss, allowing five runs without recording an out.
Campbell will look to sweep a third straight Big South series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
Cade Kuehler is expected to get the nod for the Camels.
