Camels open Longwood series with 9-2 win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell tallied nine extra base hits and three home runs to power its way to a 9-2 win over Longwood Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium. Campbell has now won 11 consecutive Big South conference games and has a 10+ game conference win streak for the second season in a row.

The win improves Campbell to 23-13, 12-1 in the Big South while Longwood falls to 18-21, 8-5 in the league.

Thomas Harrington (9-1) turned in another stellar start, tossing six shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out seven. He earned his ninth win of the season to remain one of the nation's wins leaders.

Logan Jordan highlighted the offense with a 3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI game, his second multi-home run game of the season. Both were two-run shots after the Lancers walked Zach Neto in front of him.

Connor Denning got in on the action going back-to-back with Jordan in the third inning, the duo's second time going back-to-back this year. Jordan and Denning both now have eight home runs on the season.

The Camels got on the board in the second thanks to a two-out double from Belbin, before posting a four-spot in the third inning to break things open.

Campbell added two more in each the fourth and six to take a 9-0 lead at the time on a two-run double from Pierson and the Jordan's second home run.

Cameron O'Brien worked two innings and allowed one run in relief and Jordan Irizarry allowed one run in the ninth to finish the game.

Along with Jordan, Pierson also had three hits on the night and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Neto and Denning each reached three times with a hit and two walks.

Longwood was led by two-hit days from Michael Peterson and Drayven Kowalski, each driving in a run as well. Lancer starter Andrew Potojecki (6-3) was tagged with the loss.

The Camels and Lancers return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. Cade Boxrucker is expected to get the start for Campbell.
