BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Fourth seeded Campbell will host Gardner-Webb Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Big South Conference women's lacrosse championship first round. All Big South Championship games will air on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT: Campbell (10-6, 7-2) dropped an 18-8 decision Wednesday at Mercer for its second-straight setback…
Gardner-Webb (9-8, 5-4) fell 23-14 Wednesday against High Point.
SERIES: Campbell leads the all-time series with GWU 7-0 following a 12-8 win Apr. 13 in Buies Creek… Saturday's match marks the first time that the Camels and Runnin' Bulldogs have squared off in the Big South Championship.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Campbell stands 3-7 all-time in the Big South Championship after falling to Radford 15-14 in last year's semifinal round… CU has advanced to at least the semifinal round each year since 2016 (no tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic)… Gardner-Webb is 0-2 all-time in the Big South Championship. In GWU's most recent league tournament appearance, the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped a 19-2 decision at High Point in the 2016 quarterfinal.
RECORD SETTING: Campbell has already tied the school record for most wins (10) in a season while setting a CU mark for league victories. CU set a program record earlier this year with a seven-game win streak.
LAST MEETING: Megan Matthews had 6 points (3G, 3A), while
Sam Bischoff,
Joslin Hanbury and
Shania Roehrich added two goals each in Campbell's 12-8 win over Gardner-Webb Apr. 13 at Barker-Lane Stadium. The Camels jumped to a 5-1 lead before GWU drew level. CU led 6-5 at halftime, then scored the first 3 goals of the third quarter. GWU was unable to trim the gap below three the rest of the way. Jada Preston led GWU with 5 points (3G, 2A), while Aimie Perino added two goals.
Emma Strickland finished with nine saves for Campbell, while Danielle Burke made 13 stops for GWU.
ALL-LEAGUE HONORS: Sam Bischoff was named Big South midfielder of the year,
Rebekah Taylor defender of the year and
Megan Matthews scholar-athlete of the year to lead a quartet of Camels recognized on the Big South all-conference teams. Bischoff and Taylor were first-team choices, Matthews was named second-league all-league and to the all-academic team, while
Chandler Stewart received honorable mention all-league recognition… Bischoff leads all Big South midfielders and ranks third overall with a career-high 52 goals... Taylor ranks second in the Big South in caused turnovers per game (1.69) and also shares the team lead in ground balls (35)... In addition to leading the team with 28 assists (fourth in the conference), Matthews owns a 3.97 grade-point average as a Kinesiology, Pre-Physician Assistant major. She is one of only two players in the Big South with at least 25 goals (26) and 25 assists (28) this season… Stewart has started 31 games over the last two seasons and anchors a Campbell defense that leads the league in caused turnovers (11.44), while ranking second in ground balls (21.06) and third in goals-against average (12.67).
NATIONAL RANKS: The Camels rank among the nation's top 10 in caused turnovers (seventh, 11.44) and ground balls (third, 21.06). CU also rates fifth in the nation in shots per game (34.81), 13th in draw controls (16.88) and 18th in scoring (15.25)… Gardner-Webb stands fifth in the country in ground balls (20.59) and 11th in caused turnovers (9.94).
GARDNER-WEBB GLANCE: The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by first-team all-conference attack Jada Preston (46G, 23A, 69 pts.) and defender Maddie Martin, who leads the league in draw controls (6.35) and is fourth in ground balls (2.82)… Lauren Deaver (25G, 25A, 50 pts.) and Eilish Gately (34G, 10A, 44 pts.) also figure greatly in the GWU offense.
HOME AND AWAY: Campbell finished the regular season 3-3 in home matches, 3-1 vs. Big South opponents in Buies Creek... Gardner-Webb stands 4-5 on the road, 2-2 at Big South foes.
AGAINST THE FIELD: Campbell went 3-2 in the regular season against teams in the Big South Championship. CU dealt High Point its only league loss (17-14) on Mar. 30, while also downing Winthrop (17-10) and Gardner-Webb (12-8). The Camels dropped their final two regular season games to Furman (16-15 OT) and Mercer (18-8)… Gardner-Webb was 1-4 vs. the Big South tournament field, the lone victory coming Mar. 30 at Winthrop… In addition to a 12-8 loss at Campbell, GWU dropped matches to High Point (23-14), Mercer (21-13) and Furman (17-14).
