Lacrosse meets Radford on the road Wednesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After a 2-0 start to Big South play, Campbell will hit the road on Wednesday, April 6, at Radford. The contest is set for 3:00 p.m. at the RU Student Outdoor Recreation Complex.

Campbell (5-4, 2-0 Big South) began its Big South slate with a 17-14 win at High Point and followed with a 17-10 victory over Winthrop in its conference home opener.

The Camels' win over HPU snapped a 26 match Big South winning streak for the Panthers, winners of the last four Big South championships. The win also marked the first for the Camels over the Panthers, who claimed the first 12 meetings of the all-time series.

In their Big South home debut, Ally Heath and Megan Matthews combined for 12 points, leading the Camels over Winthrop. Heath scored a career-high five goals with two assists, while Matthews posted three goals and two assists to lead the Camels.

Following those wins, Sam Bischoff was named the league's co-offensive player of the week, recording a pair of hat tricks, totaling 12 points on the week, while Mia Lee was tabbed Big South defensive player of the week, anchoring CU with seven caused turnovers and six ground balls in her first two career starts.

The sophomore registered a career-high nine points with seven goals, also a career-best, and two assists in Campbell's 17-14 win at High Point on Wednesday. The Camels' win at HPU snapped a 26 match Big South winning streak for the Panthers, winners of the last four Big South championships. On Saturday, Bischoff tacked on her sixth hat trick of the season, posting three goals with two draw controls in a 17-10 win against Winthrop.

Lee first helped Campbell top HPU with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, then gathered a career-high four caused turnovers with three more ground balls in Saturday's win over Winthrop. The senior led the Camels on the defensive end, holding the Panthers to a .389 shot percentage, CU's second lowest of the season. Campbell also forced a season-high 22 turnovers against the Eagles on Saturday.

Five Camels have now earned Big South weekly honors this season.

For the season, Bischoff owns a team-high 39 points on 30 goals and nine assists, adding 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Matthews, meanwhile, has tallied a Big South-leading 17 assists with 16 goals, while Julianna Sanchez has posted 28 points, including 19 goals, with 66 draw controls, ranking seventh in the country with 8.25 draw controls per game.

Defensively, Annie Ryan has caused a team-high 12 turnovers, with Rebekah Taylor picking up 22 ground balls with 11 caused turnovers and Chandler Stewart registering 10 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls. In goal, Emma Strickland has collected 73 saves.

Campbell's offensive attack ranks as one of the best in the nation, standing 13th overall in goals per game (15.56), as well as fifth in shots on goal per game (26.89) and eighth in draw controls per game (17.56). CU also leads the nation in ground balls per game (22.0).

Radford is 1-8 overall and 0-2 in Big South games heading into Wednesday's contest after falling 20-4 against Mercer in its last outing. Margaret Gleason leads the Highlanders with 18 points on 14 goals and four assists, while Libby Rehkemper has collected 16 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.

Campbell is 7-1 against Radford in the all-time series, including a pair of regular season wins over the Highlanders in 2021 before RU defeated the Camels 15-14 in the Big South tournament semifinals.

Campbell will continue Big South on the road on Saturday at Longwood (April 9). The Camels return home on April 13, hosting Gardner-Webb.
