BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After adding a baseball tournament trophy last weekend, Campbell University added to its school record 13 conference titles in one academic year. None of the other 17 Division I programs in North Carolina have won more than six league championships this season.
Fighting Camel teams have combined to win 12 Big South regular season and tournament crowns in 2021-22 in addition to the 2022 Southern Conference wrestling tournament.
In spite of the fact that no spring sport titles were awarded during the Covid 19-shortened 2019-20 season, the Camels have won 27 conference championships over the last three years – the most in a three-year span in Campbell history.
Campbell won 2021-22 Big South Conference regular season championships in baseball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball and men's tennis. CU also claimed Big South tournament championship crowns in women's golf, men's soccer, softball, men's indoor track & field, volleyball and baseball, plus the 2022 SoCon wrestling title.
CU claimed the Big South automatic bid to NCAA postseason play in men's soccer, volleyball, women's golf and baseball.
The 13 won in 2021-22 eclipsed the previous school record of 10 championships claimed in 2018-19. Campbell also won eight league crowns in 2020-21. Fighting Camel teams claimed seven championships both in 1992-93 and 1991-92.
