No. 21 Campbell blanks Davidson 2-0

Camels play down a man for 85 minutes, but stay unbeaten

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Shorthanded Campbell scored once in each half Thursday to claim a 2-0 victory over Davidson at Alumni Field.

Daniel Hernandez and Kemy Amiche struck for the 21st-ranked Camels (3-0), who played the final 85 minutes down a man.

Diego Konincks was sent off for a foul on a Wildcats break, but Davidson was unable to capitalize on the advantage.

After 33 minutes Hernandez stole the ball in the midfield, dribbled in free on keeper Giacomo Piccardo and scored his second goal of year on a right-footed shot inside the near post.

Campbell out-shot the Wildcats 7-5 in the opening period and did not allow a Davidson attempt on target.

Keeper Sean Ellis charged off his line in the 50th minute to save a shot by Vincent Bennage and preserve the margin.

After 61 minutes, Hernandez dribbled to the top of the Davidson box and slid the ball across to Amiche, who curled a left-footed shot into the net for his second goal of the season.

Ellis finished with three saves for his second shutout in three matches.

Both teams had 11 shots and three on target.  Campbell took six corner kicks to five for Davidson (0-3), which has failed to score in all three of its matches this season.

"We were unfortunate to go down a man on our only foul of the first half," said Campbell head coach Dustin Fonder.  "But our group showed resiliency to fight for each other and grind out a win on the road.  That's a sign of a good team."
